Sponsorship Deal with Leading Goalkeeping Brand Reusch
The North West Counties Football League have announced the launch of a three-year sponsorship deal with the world’s oldest goalkeeping supplier, Reusch, to become the League’s official Goalkeeping Partner. The deal is the first time Reusch has sponsored a league in the UK.
Reusch will become the Official Sponsor of the League’s Goalkeeper of the Month Award across the three divisions, with the winning goalkeeper receiving a pair of Reusch gloves. A new award will be introduced for season 2012/13: The Goalkeeper of the Year Award will be presented to the best goalkeepers in the NWCFL Premier, First and Reserve Divisions at the League’s Annual General Meeting which takes place in June. The winners will receive a year’s sponsorship from Reusch throughout season 2013/14, which will consist of six pairs of gloves, shirt, shorts and trousers and other goalkeeping accessories.
In an additional incentive for goalkeepers, Reusch will also provide a free pair of gloves to any first choice goalkeeper whose team reaches the fourth round of the FA Carlsberg Vase during this season’s competition.
Dave Tomlinson, chairman of The North West Counties Football League, said: “We are delighted to welcome a brand with the heritage and history of Reusch as The North West Counties Football League’s Official Goalkeeping Partner. We look forward to working closely with Reusch over the next three years and that goalkeepers in the League will enjoy wearing gloves provided by the oldest goalkeeper glove brand in the world.”
Bob Fidler, Reusch UK Country Manager, said of the deal: “We at Reusch are delighted to develop this association with the NWCFL. Over recent years I have come to know that the League is professional and progressive and within the league are some great clubs playing an excellent standard of football. I have personally enjoyed the hospitality at many clubs in the league across the North West of England and hopefully with this agreement we can provide something back to the goalkeeping community within the league.”
About Reusch
In the world of goalkeeping, no brand can match the heritage of German brand Reusch. They manufactured the first ever goalkeeper glove with a latex palm, worn by the legendary German goalkeeper Sepp Maier when he helped West Germany lift the World Cup in 1974. Since then more goalkeepers have worn Reusch gloves to win World Cups and European Championships, than any other brand in the market. Over the years many great keepers have trusted in Reusch gloves including Peter Schmeichel when he achieved the treble in 1999 with Manchester United and more recently Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar who repeated the feat in Italy with Inter Milan in 2010, before being named UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year.
Reusch recognise that it is not just players at the highest level who wear their product, which is why as a specialist brand they produce a range to suit keepers of all levels, playing in all conditions and on all surfaces. In 2012 Reusch UK has agreed a number of partnership / sponsorship deals to put something back into goalkeeping from grass roots up. Firstly they sponsored the newly formed Goalkeeper Coaches Association (The GCA) www.thegca.co.uk, who launched at the Grassroots Football Show in Birmingham, which is aiming to equip more people to provide coaching to more goalkeepers especially at the lower levels. Secondly they sponsored the first ever Goalkeeping Conference to be held in the U.K. which was an opportunity for goalkeeper coaches to get together and share ideas and coaching techniques which included sessions put on by Eric Steele the Manchester United goalkeeper coach and Simon Smith the F.A. Youth Goalkeeper Coach. A number of other deals were agreed including sponsorship of The Non League Paper Goalkeeper of the Year awards, and now The North West Counties Football League.

The NWCFL Accelerates Sponsor Search
The North West Counties Football League is stepping up its search for sponsors following the appointment of Paul Lawler as the League’s new Development Officer. Paul will be accelerating the search for sponsors as we head towards the start of the new season.
Paul Lawler, development officer, said: “The League’s priority is to find suitable partners we can work with over the longer term. A number of meetings have already taken place with some potential partners and sponsors and I am encouraged by the response we have received so far. It is vital as a league we secure a headline sponsor for the competition and it is our priority to get sponsorship deals in place as soon as possible, ideally before the start of the new campaign.
“We believe the headline sponsorship for the competition will be attractive to a major brand looking to show its commitment to football and local communities in the North West. We are used to working with big companies, having worked with brands such as Bass, Carling, Worthington, North West Trains and more recently Vodkat. The league attracts interest both nationally and internationally, and our website and clubs provide the perfect outlet for any brand to communicate directly with fans. Last season the website attracted over 800,000 unique users and we have major plans to expand the site further to grow our user base beyond the one million mark within two years.”

Sponsorship Opportunities with the NWCFL
With the season now over, the North West Counties League is continuing its search for major sponsors for next season.
The League is able to offer a variety of sponsorship packages suitable for all budgets and company sizes. Our title sponsorship offers companies the opportunity to promote their name both nationally and internationally, while helping develop grassroots football in the heart of local communities in the North West.
Our second tier sponsorship package entitles the sponsor to exclusivity in their own business category. For example, our Official Betting Partner would receive exclusivity in this sponsorship category, ensuring none of their main competitors are able to partner with the NWCFL for the term of the deal.
Our third tier sponsorships and bespoke opportunities give companies with a limited budget the opportunity to promote themselves to a large audience through community football.
In addition, the League website allows companies the opportunity to advertise their brand to a wide audience. Last season, the site received almost 900,000 visitors, and increase of 13 per cent on the previous season.
Paul Lawler, League Development Officer, said: “With the current economic conditions meaning company budgets are being squeezed, the search for headline sponsors has been challenging, despite interest from a number of parties. However, as a League we are able to offer a range of sponsorship opportunities aimed at all budgets so we are eager to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping support grass roots football while promoting their brand.
“As well as the main headline sponsorship, we are also looking to appoint at least five category partners and also ad hoc sponsorships relating to the different awards. Last season we were delighted to bring on board goalkeeping brand Reusch, kit supplier Blacksquare Teamwear and energy drink supplier Rampant Energy, and we hope to add to these companies over the next few months. If your company would like to get involved in supporting Grassroots football, I urge you to get in touch.”
